Juicy Bits and Sparklies

Ever read a line, hear a phrase, or experience a random thought and think, "I could use that in a piece of artwork!?" If you are like me, those ahhah! moments come often, but quickly disappear if I don't write them down. I guess my brain is too taxed by trying to remember computer passwords and where I parked at the grocery store.

Of course, if I do manage to write down that great phrase,
my next problem is finding the gum wrapper where I wrote it.

So, in an effort to give myself some help, I decided to make a handy booklet just for the purpose of writing down phrases I like. I am calling it "Juicy Bits and Sparklies."

I used white Canson Colorline paper, acrylic paint, spray ink, pencil, and watercolor crayons to decorate each page in a free-form color splash style.

I added writing surfaces by using washi tape and a few old book pages covered in gesso. The tape can be repositioned, so if I change my mind on something, I can just pull it out and add something else.

I'll use washi tape to add other doo-dads and pictures as well. No big plans here, just a fun place to peruse when I need a little inspiration.

How about you? Do you have a journal or special book for your favorite sayings and sparkly bits?

  1. I love it! It's so pretty. A great spot to store your treasury of interesting phrases. I too collect things I hear while out and about and usually have a tiny notebook with me. I started carrying it after telling myself I was going to remember that ... And then when came time to remember, drawing a complete blank! I also have a notebook where I write down the humorous things I see or hear. It's fun to go bak and read. But my notebooks are not nearly as lovely as yours is!

    1. I am not surprised you already do this, as you must be super organized to capture the variety of moments you capture with your camera! I always look forward to what I will see (and read) next on your blog.

  2. I used to write all of those juicy bits on sticky notes. Lots of sticky notes, stuck everywhere--so I can related to your gum wrapper dilemma. Now I make notes on my cell phone...which works great, but isn't nearly as sparkly as your awesome book.

    1. I am smacking myself in the head - why have I not thought of that? I have had an iphone for a few years now and unless someone reminds me of a feature, I don't use it! Maybe my brain can only handle so much technology at once. From this day forward... will start using the phone for notes on the go! Thank you for the suggestion!

  4. Love it Jenny! I actually made a little "happy" book with leftover papers I posted about and use it to write down quotes and phrases I come across also. Much easier to find than going thru bits and pieces of paper scattered all over the place :)

    1. Thanks Linda! So true! I also find that I look forward to writing things in it, so perhaps that will help me remember to do it as well!
