Go With Gloomy

After weeks of sunshine and fall-like weather, we are getting something we need. Rain.

Things are a little off today.

After the rain had been coming down for about a half hour, I remembered the vintage suitcases I've been airing out for over a week.

Even the dog is cantankerous, busting through a makes-shift gate and spending all morning relaxing without a care on the "off-limits" couch. Notice... no sense of urgency or shame as I take her picture to admit into evidence.

Since all was a bit gloomy, I decided to just go with it.

Rainy days are great for napping and eating cookies, but they are also great for Gelli printing. Today's color scheme - gloomy.

I actually ended up loving these prints. The colors are a complete departure from what I would normally choose.

Last night, my daughter looked into the sky and said, "I love that color." I looked up and saw what seemed to be a non-descript nighttime sky. She said, "you know, blue, brown, green, gray." And I looked again. She was right. There were beautiful, rich, and deep tones in that seemingly blah sky. I just needed to look a little more closely.

As I sit here, I can look out my window and see the gorgeous dark brown of wet pine bark, the glassy white of rain-drenched leaves, the intense black of pavement saturated by water. Maybe rainy days and Mondays aren't so bad after all.

  2. When we were little my sister and I used to call that "blue dark"...that time of day when everything looks sparkly, right before it gets dark out. It's still my favorite time of day. How special that your daughter noticed. :)

  3. It sometimes takes a child's perspective to get us to look a bit closer at things. I loved how you took that and left a beautiful description of what you saw out your rain drenched window! Well said!! Love the choice of colors you used on your prints. I see such passion!!

LOVING the jelli paintings- I was actually swinging to check them out large when I saw your name on a comment on my blog. Thanks for swinging by. I love how kids can always point out the stuff you may miss from always running around distracted or busy. :)
