Fuzz Here, Fuzz There, Fuzz Everywhere

I am surrounded by fuzz. I've been washing Peanut and her bedding and I have been sewing felt necklaces. Both lead to fuzz on my clothes, in my eyes, and up my nose. I feel a bit like I have been peach-picking on a hot and sweaty day (an activity I vividly and uncomfortably remember from over 30 years ago.)

The felt necklaces are coming along.

If I could get my act together, I'd put some in my empty Etsy shop. But, no time. I need to watch Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer with the kids, take said dog for her annual vet visit, and make sure we have enough Cheerios for breakfast tomorrow. The shop can wait.

Lots of things can wait. Last weekend I found myself stirred into a frenzy of why am I not doing this? accompanied by a case of I need to do that too! I nearly drove myself and my poor husband crazy. The pressure inspired me to create a Twitter account and start tweeting until I realized... I have nothing to tweet! No one will follow my boring life. That realization sent me into another type of panic called why can't I think of something fabulous to tweet?

Thankfully, the ridiculousness of that last panic sent me back to reality and I wisely just turned off the computer for a few days. I spent time folding laundry, reading, cleaning the tub, and mindfully wiping counter tops. I also turned my attention back to the people (and doggie) I love. I needed to clean out the fuzz that was taking over my brain.

Technology is a wonderful thing, but sometimes I just hit a wall of too much. Facebook, crafty blogs, and (have mercy) Pinterest. My head starts to feel like a Jiffy Pop popcorn pan, expanding and filling with ideas and images every second.

Instead of being inspired, I start to feel overwhelmed. And suddenly (gasp) my creativity is gone.

So here I am again, peaceful creative woman on her own path with her own timeline.

I give myself two weeks before Jiffy Pop brain returns.

By the way, Peanut feels like silk and her bed smells quite different.

  1. Jenny, these are AMAZING! I love them! So very cool. I too do those things you describe (minus, god willing, Pinterest). Kids, house, hubby, and myself suffer. It's good to reset yourself. Take a break from it all. My etsy shop is also empty! These necklaces are so amazing!!!! Do you ever do any ATC swaps? I think I'd like to but know know where to look.

  2. lol I get the 'fuzz' feeling up my nose every time my daughter opens up the bag of pillow stuffing and throws it around pretending snow is falling :) I also get the popcorn feeling. I like your idea of following your own creative path and time line - beautifully said ! Oh and the necklaces are gorgeous!

  4. Yep, love a mindful wipe of a counter top..
Lately I have been sucked in by 'work of art' via you tube. Have you seen it? Artists facing a challenge each week? I figure I at least may as well watch someone else create until my mojo bounces back! I may even do one of their challenges..

  5. Wonderful necklaces! Great article in CPS. Your take on time echoes my rant on the same subject in my last post. So glad to see you're creating such wonderful stuff no matter the time limits! Art on!! ~Betsy

  6. Found you through the CPS article. Love your work! Just liked you on FB. Do you have an Etsy shop?

Oh, and I know exactly what you mean by the popcorn thing. I have a blog, Etsy shop, FB fan page, Twitter and just signed on to Pintrest, but the number one thing I concentrate on is the FB fan page. It's a wonderful marketing tool! Which I'm sure all the other ones are, too, but there's only so much time in the day.

  8. Oh, Jenny. Did you just give me a new addiction? I somehow missed Pinterest until now. I'll have to check out your etsy shop. I'm at the beginning stages of setting one up, and I just set-up a shop on http://nikkimarie-smith.fineartamerica.com and started filling it with my artwork this month, too. I've actually found that I'm more productive right now, creating art to add to my shop. Whether anyone ever buys it or not, It's a good feeling to be actively creative again. Of course, something's gotta give as there is only so much time in the day. Not sure where I can squeeze in Pinterest (no more laundry?) - ha! I'll just have to pretend I didn't read that part...and jump over to their site...and request the invite...I didn't do it! Nobody saw me! :)

Glad you took a breather to recenter yourself. I'm going to need to do the same pretty soon, but for now I'm on a roll!
